Tribe indigenous people are still living in large number of countries all over the world. These indigenous people could be able to cope up with the developed technical and technological globalized world being protecting their traditional ways, habits, rituals in natural habitats which identical to their forefathers.
The Yakkhas, Naga, Deva, Raksha are thought to have inhabited the island before the coming of Vijaya in prehistoric era. Among them Sri Lankan indigenous people Yakkhas were the forefathers of presently regarded Veddas, states in the chronicals so Sri Lanka is known to have been one of the principal place in the world of indigenous people. Further the chronical states, the tribe of Yakkhas people held a pageant on behalf of Lord Buddha during his 1st visit to Sri Lanka, and there was an army of indigenous people in the security forces of some ancient longs. At present these native people are living in Hennanigala, Pollebedda, Ratugala and Dalukana and instead of their traditional life of hunting, adapted themselves to village life or to the cultivating of land yet they have been protected their rituals, traditional items.
Hon. President Mahinda Rajapaksha, wants not only to mark the World’s Indigenous People Day on 09th August, issuing a stamp itself, but also wants to launch a social service program for the public on 25th September 2010, 9.00 a.m. onwards, to commemorate this special day. Presidential Secretarial organized this program, launch in collaborate with Mahiyanganaya Divisional Secretariat, Mahiyanaganaya Pradeshiya Sabhawa and Uva Provincial Council with thirty (30) ministries headed by the Hon. Minister of National Heritage and cultural affairs Mrs. Pavithra Vanniarachchi and Hon. Chief Minister of Uva Provincial Council Mr. Shashendrea Rajapaksha with advice given by the Head of the Indigenous People Uruvariga Vanniyala aththo.
